Skill Development
Gujarat State Skill Mission has been set up to converge schemes of
various departments, to avoid duplication or overlap and to strengthen
quality of skill training. In addition, Gujarat Knowledge Society has a
major program of conducting skill trainings for enhancing employability
in the existing buildings of schools and colleges. The Society has a
target of training one lakh youth per year.

Gujarat constitutes 5% of Indian population and contributes 16% to India's GDP. The investment climate and industry friendly policies have made Gujarat an industrially vibrant state. Gujarat is among the few states in India to attract investments and create jobs. In Gujarat, self-employment and entrepreneurship plays a vital role in generating the employment and corporate houses could benefit by participating in industry led skill development programs. The National Skill Development Mission estimates a requirement of 50 crores trained work force by 2022 wherein Gujarat targeting to train 2.5 crore youth, which comes to train 25 lakhs individuals per year. In the next 5 years, GLPC targets to screen 40 lakhs candidates and provide employment to 10 lakhs candidates from several sectors. Districts like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Rajkot etc have huge potential pertaining to skill development.
Skill India is an initiative of Government of India.
It was launched by Prime Minister NarendraModi on 16 July 2015 with an
aim to train over 40 crore people in India in different skills by
2022. The initiatives include National Skill Development Mission,
National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015, Pradhan
MantriKaushalVikasYojana (PMKVY) scheme and the Skill Loan scheme.
Shri NarendraModi has stated time and again that the question
of whether India or China will emerge as the leader of the 21st century
will be determined by the manner in which we empower our youth with
relevant skills. Shri Modi is a firm believer in the India’s demographic
dividend and has stated repeatedly that it is our youth who will
fulfill Swami Vivekananda’s dream of a Jagad Guru Bharat.
In the last decade, Gujarat has taken several strides in
enhancing our youth with skill development. Be it revamping ITI
structure, giving job letters to ITI educated youth or focusing on soft
skills, the tireless efforts of the Gujarat Government in skill
development have delivered phenomenal results. On 21st April 2013
Gujarat’s KaushalyaVardhanKendras were awarded the Prime Minister’s
Award for Excellence in Public Administration!
